Privacy policy
Quraan Made Easy has no accounts and no adverts. What you read, save and search stays on your device. This page sets out exactly what does leave it, and why.

Who we are
Quraan Made Easy (“the app”) is published by maze (mazetech.co.za), South Africa. For any privacy question, email info@mazetech.co.za.
We are the responsible party under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and the data controller under the UK and EU GDPR where those apply to you.
The short version
- There is no account, no login and no profile.
- There are no adverts, and no advertising identifiers are collected.
- We never sell or share your data with data brokers.
- Your bookmarks, collections, reading position and settings are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded to us.
- The app sends anonymous crash reports and aggregate usage counts, so we can fix what breaks and see which features are used.
- We never collect the words you search for, the notes you write, or the names you give your collections.
What stays on your device
The following never leaves your phone or tablet. It is written to your device's own private storage, and deleting the app deletes all of it.
- Bookmarks and the collections you create, including any names and notes
- Your last-read position
- Settings — theme, reciter, fonts and text sizes, mushaf appearance
- Reciter audio you have downloaded for offline listening
What the app does collect
The app uses two Google Firebase services. Neither is tied to a name, an email address or an account, because the app has none.
Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting
When the app crashes or hits an error, a report is sent so we can diagnose and fix it. A report contains:
- The error and the stack trace — the code path that failed
- Device model, operating system version and app version
- Device state at the time, such as available memory and orientation
- A randomly generated installation identifier, reset if you reinstall
Firebase Analytics — aggregate usage
So we can see which parts of the app are actually used, the app records a small set of events. Each carries only numbers and identifiers, never content you have written:

Firebase Analytics also records standard technical information: app version, device model, operating system, language, an approximate region derived from your IP address, and a randomly generated app-instance identifier.
Advertising identifiers are switched off. The app disables Android's Advertising ID collection and removes the associated permissions from the build, so no advertising or cross-app tracking identifier is collected on any platform.
Collection is disabled in development builds. Crash and analytics reporting is active only in the released app.
Downloading reciter audio
Recitations are streamed or downloaded from third-party audio hosts. As with any request over the internet, the host you connect to can see your IP address and which files you requested. We do not control those hosts and do not receive that information from them.
Why we are allowed to do this
Where the GDPR applies, our lawful basis is legitimate interest — keeping the app stable and understanding in aggregate which features are worth maintaining. Under POPIA we rely on the equivalent legitimate-interest ground. You can object at any time by contacting us, or simply by uninstalling the app.
Who your data is shared with
Only Google, as our processor, in its capacity as the provider of Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics. Data may be processed on Google servers outside South Africa. We do not sell data, we run no advertising networks, and we share nothing with data brokers or analytics resellers beyond the Firebase services named above.
How long it is kept
- Crash reports: retained by Firebase Crashlytics for up to 90 days.
- Analytics events: retained for up to 14 months, then deleted automatically.
- Anything on your device: kept until you delete it, or until you uninstall the app.
Your rights and your choices
Because we hold no account and no name, we generally cannot connect any record to you as an individual — which means we usually cannot look up, export or delete “your” data on request, since we have no way to identify which rows are yours.
What you can do:
- Delete everything on your device by uninstalling the app. That removes all bookmarks, settings and downloaded audio immediately.
- Reset the identifiers used by crash and analytics reporting by uninstalling and reinstalling — new random identifiers are generated.
- Ask us anything at info@mazetech.co.za. Under POPIA and the GDPR you may request access, correction, deletion or objection, and we will help wherever we are technically able to identify the data.
- You may also lodge a complaint with the South African Information Regulator, or with your local supervisory authority in the UK or EU.
Children
The app is suitable for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app has no account, no messaging, no user-generated content and no purchasing.
Changes to this policy
If we change what the app collects, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
